There weren’t many ACC teams playing this weekend, but it was a great one. Along with Boston College and Miami, Virginia Tech had their first of two bye weeks, but the games still made it a fun weekend of college football.
Virginia lost 24–20 to Louisville at home in a back-and-forth second half, and California missed a field goal that could have won the game in the last minute, keeping Pittsburgh unbeaten. In Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Georgia Tech beat the Tar Heels 41–34 with late goals.
It was the most exciting game of the day. To move to 5-1 in Fran Brown’s first year as head coach, Syracuse beat North Carolina State 24–17. Clemson blew out Wake Forest, and Stanford lost badly at Notre Dame.
The eighth week of the season starts Thursday night when Boston College comes to Blacksburg for an interesting game between two teams that need to win. Here are this week’s ACC Football Power Rankings.

The ACC will have a lot going on this coming week. After BC goes to Lane Stadium on Thursday night, Florida State will go to Duke on Friday night in a game between two teams going in different ways. The Seminoles should win this game, but the Blue Devils will have something to say about that.
There are a lot of games on Saturday. Miami goes to Louisville, and Virginia plays at Clemson. In this tough non-conference game, Wake Forest will try to get back on track after losing badly to Clemson at home.
In a matchup of first-year ACC teams, Notre Dame will go to Georgia Tech, NC State will go to California, and SMU will play at Stanford. It’s going to be another crazy weekend in the ACC.
